I think my favorite cookies are nutella cookies. I made some for the first time not to long ago. They turned out great. For these cookies you’re going to need to gather up the ingredients . So you will need 2 1/2 […]

Ok let me explain, I watch the sweetest and weirdest kids ever. One day last week while we were walking home from the park one of the four year olds noticed a banner/flag thing on the side of someone’s house. Assuming it was a birthday banner she asked, Who’s birthday it was. I had told her that it wasn’t for someone’s birthday, that it was for the sun. From that she got that it was the sun’s birthday, a little bit later, she decided that the sun needed a cake. So I told her next week we’d make cup cakes for the sun.
So we did. Because I am made this with the little ones, I measured every thing out first, then they added the ingredients You will need
- 1 1/2 Cups of flour
- 1 Teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 Cup of Butter at Room Temperature
- 1 Cup of sugar
- 2 Eggs at Room Temperature
- 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 Cup of milk at Room Temperature
Preheat the oven to 350 ° F.
Whisk in the Baking Soda, and Salt into the Flour and set it aside. Now Cream the butter and sugar until it’s light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs one at a time, and then the vanilla. When everything is mixed in well, add the milk and flour in parts and mix in between. I’m gonna suggest stirring in the flour before turning on the mixer.. Unless you want a big floury mess.
Once your little helpers (or you if you’re baking it you’re self) counts out 12 cupcake liners, and fills pan it’s time to pour in the batter, and bake them for about 35-40 minutes.
After they are done baking and while they are cooling it’s time to make the frosting. and for that You will need
- 3 cups of powderd/confectioners sugar
- 3/4 cups of butter at Room Temperature
- 1 Teaspoon of vanilla
- a small amount of milk
Cream the butter and the vanilla until it’s well blended, then start adding the powder sugar. Again I suggest that you carefully stir it in before turning on the mixer, you can add milk (in tiny amounts at a time) if your frosting is too thick, but you don’t have to. I added yellow and orange food coloring to make the cupcakes look like the sun. Even if they look a bit flowerlike.
After picking the big girls up from school, they decided we needed to have snack out side and even sing happy birthday to the sun. We have started to give the sun emotions, when last year they asked who I had a crush on and couldn’t think of anything and said the sun. So it made sense to them, to have a cake for the sun, I did, however, draw the line at them wanting to throw one up to the sun.
I do a lot of silly things for these kids, I think that’s one of my favorite things about babysitting. What types of silly/nonsense things have you done for kids?
I can’t cook. I mean, yes, I can manage to make breakfast and lunch every day for the kids, but it’s a miricale if I can get them to eat anything but cereal in the mornings, and lunch is easy to cook. However […]
I can’t cook. I mean, yes, I can manage to make breakfast and lunch every day for the kids, but it’s a miricale if I can get them to eat anything but cereal in the mornings, and lunch is easy to cook. However I love baking. I don’t know why I just do. I cant tell you why I don’t mind getting egg on my hands, but if I have to touch raw chicken I want to cry.
Any way; I was at the store one day and I had seen a string of mini candy canes, and I thought they’d be great on borwnies. So I bought them and decided I was going to make some.
Ok now brownies are quite easy to make.
You will need.
- 1/2 cup of melted butter
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- 2 Eggs
- 1/3 cup of cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup of flour
- 1/4 tsp of salt
- 1/4 tsp of baking powder
- 4 mini candy canes. More or less depending on taste
A spatula, two bowls, and an electric hand mixer are handy to have as well
So first things first, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Then you’re going to need to pop the butter into the microwave for about 30 seconds, and then mix the butter into the sugar, and add the eggs, vanilla.
Next your going to want to mix in a separate bowl the cocoa powder, flour, salt and baking powder, and slowly add the powders to the butter/sugar mix I like to first stir it together with spatula so there is less powder going every where then the mixers are turned on, then with an electric mixer, beat until the batter is a smooth.
Now you’re going to pour the batter into a baking dish and bake for about 25-30 minutes. I like to cook brownies at the lesser time, so that they would be goey and a tiny bit undercooked.
While that’s baking, it’s a good time to crush the candy canes. using a spoon I just hit the mini candy canes until they were small enough for the brownie toppings, and when it comes out of the oven sprinkle the candy cane bits on top. I only put the candy canes on half of the brownies, since no one else likes peppermint.
I think brownies are the easiest thing to make, and they have always come out good… at least I think they do, unlike cupcakes which occasionally come out still good but kind of dry. Also I saw this link saved to my computer with the same recipe so I’m going say it’s save to assume find all of my new recipes from. this one also comes with directions for frosting as well. Which I would suggest using because I tried to make my own by melting some chocolate chips, with butter and mixing in powdered sugar. It tasted alright, but I could not get it to spread, and it doesn’t look very pretty.
